It never ceases to amaze me the ways in which Google has fucked it up. After running software platforms for 10+ years, there has been only a single time, that's it, one time, that I had to deprecate an API, nay, an endpoint.
And the reason was simple, none of our users wanted it formatted the way it was. And while we jumped at the chance to create a new endpoint to make everyone happy, the existence of two endpoints was going to cause confusion. So after a year of having two endpoints and all the users had migrated, we finally removed the api, from our documentation.
